HelsinkiAzienda Agricola Sukula — Riikka & Jyrki
IISI Vallisaari
A Finnish family at the heart of Barolo.
Riikka Sukula bought a two-hectare estate in 2005 in the Meriame cru of Serralunga d'Alba. Jyrki — known to most from Finnish kitchens and television — joined her in the vineyard a year later. They do everything themselves: pruning, harvest, bottling. Thousands of hours a year on the slope. About 4,500 bottles a year.
In the glass: Sukula's own Barolo Meriame and Barbera d'Alba. Plus the part that doesn't fit in a bottle — what life in Piedmont, and making wine from slope to bottle, actually feels like.
🧺 1pm + an afternoon on the island: the tasting ends at 3. Pick up a picnic hamper (anytime after noon) and stay to enjoy Vallisaari's summer.
